Primary Songs

First off, how is it possible to love this little boy any more than we already do? I feel like all me and Chase talk about now is how amazing and cute and sweet and perfect he is. He's got us wrapped so tightly around his little fingers. :)

But we also talk about how much we hope he'll grow up to be a good man. How we hope he'll love his parents and God and others around him. We talk about how nervous we are that we'll mess up. We just hope that we can live the things we want to teach him and that by seeing our examples he'll want to live his life loving and serving others. This is what I want for him more than anything - to be like Christ.

It doesn't matter if you believe in Christ (as in believing He is the Son of God and our Savior) or if you think he was just a nice man, even a fairy tale. Because regardless if you believe in Him, no one can deny that His teachings were good and that His example of loving and helping others was one to be admired and followed.

I've taken to singing to Finn my favorite songs from when I was in Primary. Mostly because they are the only lullaby-ish songs I know.

This one has always been my favorite:

1. I’m trying to be like Jesus;
I’m following in his ways.
I’m trying to love as he did, in all that I do and say.
At times I am tempted to make a wrong choice,
But I try to listen as the still small voice whispers,

2. I’m trying to love my neighbor;
I’m learning to serve my friends.
I watch for the day of gladness when Jesus will come again.
I try to remember the lessons he taught.
Then the Holy Spirit enters into my thoughts, saying:

Chorus
“Love one another as Jesus loves you.
Try to show kindness in all that you do.
Be gentle and loving in deed and in thought,
For these are the things Jesus taught.”
I know he doesn't understand the words now... but I hope that someday when he is older and learns this song, he'll have the slightest memory of his mama singing it to him and rocking him in her arms and feel all the love she tried to put into those words. I hope that someday he'll think about what it means to be like Jesus and that he'll want to live his life that way - showing kindness to others and loving as He did. This is my prayer for my sweet little boy who is growing up much too fast in this very scary world - I just want him to be happy, and I know without a doubt that "trying to be like Jesus" brings true and lasting happiness.

Love this post Amy. You and Chase are wonderful parents and examples to Finn. I have no doubt that he will grow up to be a wonderful man of God.
